Free parking at San Jose Flea Market

SAN JOSE — Day-trippers at the 1,000-plus-vendor San Jose Flea Market now have more convenient free parking — but they have to pay an admission fee on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Visitors should park in the south and west parking lots accessible through the Flea Market’s 1411 Mabury Road entrance, rather than the market’s old parking lot on the north side of Berryessa Road, said Flea Market officials. The change makes parking closer to vendors than before.

Parking for the market has been free since May — a boon for customers who complained on Yelp of paying up to $10 for a spot.

However, since May, visitors have had to pay $1.50 on Friday, $2.50 on Saturday and $3.50 on Sunday to enter the market. Facebook users and Yelpers appreciative of the parking changes weighed in less favorably on the new entrance fees: “$3.50 per person?!?! That is just ridiculous!!!” one commenter griped.

Admission is free all day on Wednesdays as well as Friday through Sunday before 9 a.m. Children under five feet tall accompanied by an adult can attend without charge on any day.

The Flea Market is located at 1590 Berryessa Road in San Jose. It operates year round from dawn to dusk.
